About Slapbowl
Slapbowl has been a project long in the making.
The process began some time in 2013, when I directed my first tournament for the National History Bee and Bowl. I wondered: “How can we measure how good one team is, relative to another?“. That question led me down a rabbit hole of programming and statistics, and rekindled my old love of baseball. I never did get an answer.
Years later, I found myself director of statistics for several nationals-level events, resorting to spreadsheets to tabulate scores, make schedules, and communicate results. Since my day job is more-or-less writing software to eliminate spreadsheets, I figured there had to be a better way.
Slapbowl is thus a collection of interesting technical projects that, I hope, will make the game of quizbowl more fun, more accessible, and more fun. I hope you enjoy.
